Subject: What has this guy got against Dan Brown??

base the complete first microseries

The first episode starts off with a guy getting zapped by telephone wires in the middle of the English countryside. He then wakes up with a sore head wondering what just happened only to realise that he can hear peoples phone conversations and read text messages. His powers seem to have no bounds when it comes to accessing electronic information. As you can imagine this pretty much sparked my interest straight away. Sorry couldn’t help myself.

The story line is a refreshingly new concept for a short series and it is captured well within each two minute episode. Once the main character, who remains nameless for now, discovers the extent of his powers he then has a decision to make. How will he use his powers? For good or evil? The main themes are closely based around world wide governmental conspiracy theories. Don’t let this fool you into thinking that Base is a serious dramatic voyage of discovery for the main character. The creator, Digita, has laced his own quirky sense of humour throughout the series as well.

One thing to keep an eye on is Digita’s use of sharp editing and the visual imagery. If you’ve got quick enough eyes you can see flashes of Maps, Manga images and what looks like family photos. Not only that, Base has a killer sound track. So if you’re not really into conspiracy theories and sci-fi concepts maybe you’ll enjoy just sitting back and enjoying the brilliant visual effects and sounds from The Zutons, Shpongle and Cold Cut. As a whole it all works so well and Digita should be commended on a job well done.

A man goes for a walk in the country and happens upon a mobile phone base station. The station buzzes with energy and information and within a short while he has been 'zapped' by the information and can read peoples text messages, hear peoples phone conversations and traverse the flow of information itself.
